Tonight I learned there are many, many ways you can serve a sundae

toxicnotebook:

Hey everyone. So tonight, I decided to brainstorm ideas for a new piece (working title is A Good Treat for Good Ghouls!). I knew I wanted the sundae to have at least one eye and one finger for garnish, but the rest was up in the air.

Sooo I googled sundaes. There…are a lot of sundae dishes and I ended up drawing WAAAAAY more sketches than needed:

Set One

Set Twoimage

Set Threeimage

I may do all of them in a different print, or use several of them for phone cases, but right now I only need one. I realize these scans are not the best, but they’re 30 second sketches on Post-its. You get the idea. Which ones are your favorites?

toxicnotebook:

Sketches for a custom mini-painting. I had fun doing them! I love jobs where I’m explicitly told to go crazy.
I will be painting the one on the right this weekend, so watch for an update!

So I was making a list of stuff I need to do for the shop, and I remembered an art zine I abandoned due to the fact I hated most of the sketches. I decided to flip through it and see if there was anything to be salvaged.

Dude.

MOST OF THESE ARE SOLID IDEAS

They need some work but ???? THEY’RE GOOD FIRST DRAFTS???

Pro tip: Never throw out sketches, you may come back to them later and realize past you was an idiot.

My plan was to redo this with monster girls, and I still agree with the basic sentiment. So I’m restarting the project and adding monster ladies:

If all goes well, this may be my first all-color zine!

Remember when I mentioned drawing scary fae? I should have clarified that I did not mean “gothy looking people with wings”, but “old-school, not-human-at-all-we-gonna-give-you-ALL-the-tuberculosis” fae.
Anyways. Here are a couple of little ones*, and a few passes at my version of a Greenwoman. I’m trying to go for graceful, but not pretty. I want her to really invoke the image of a gnarly old tree, and I’m not sure if I’m there yet.

I was going through my sketchbooks, and found this girl. I still liked her design, so I decided to finish her up a bit! Only Photoshop this time.

(whoops meant to post this to the art blog first OH WELL).

toxicnotebook:

oh my god I keep forgetting to post this
ANYWAYS, I’m working (on and off) on a new personal project, and it requires a lot of weird creature designs. This is my favorite so far: TREEMAN COMETH

Needed a break from the fiery birds, so I drew a quick Draculaura. Illustrator CS5. Based VERY VERY LOOSELY on Classic + Sweet Lolita.
I might finish her and use the final in the ‘Preparing Linework for Photoshop’ section of the Illustrator tutorial.
